RESIDENTS TRAVEL INFORMATION GUIDE

Your Guide to Transport Options from Copperfields

WELCOME

Welcome to Copperfields

Welcome to your new home at Copperfields. We hope you have many enjoyable years living here.

This site provides information on how to get around using public transport and other environmentally friendly methods to commute to work or explore the area and what it has on offer.

Copperfields is located within a 15-20 minute walk from Truro City Centre. The City Centre is a vibrant and attractive destination for shopping, leisure, local services and a transport hub.

The Travel Guide Website

This website is one of many measures provided by the Travel Plan produced for the Copperfields development and agreed with Cornwall Council.

The Travel Plan is a document which contains a package of measures to encourage you to try alternatives to single occupancy car use.

The Travel Plan

The Travel Plan can offer real benefits not only to you, but also to the community that surrounds you.

It can help to relieve local parking and congestion problems and improves public transport connections across the area.

It may also relieve stress on you through reducing journey delays or providing the opportunity to cut your travel commitments by working from home on occasions.

WELCOME
WALKING

WALKING

Walking offers the greatest potential to replace short car and public transport trips, particularly those under a two kilometre distance. It provides a healthy alternative to the private car and also typically forms a minor component of many journeys made by public transport and car.

Truro benefits from good walking facilities as most of the urban roads near the site have footways and street lighting is generally present.

There is an existing footway along Green Lane adjacent to the site. This route is perfect for many trips to the west of Truro, as well as to Truro Railway Station, Cornwall Hospital and Truro College.

Falmouth Road and Lemon Street provide a direct route to the city centre. Alternatively, to the west you may connect to Falmouth Road by walking along Green Lane or via Green Close and Daniell Road.

Benefits of Walking

  • Walking is a great form of exercise and can reduce the risk of heart disease.

  • Walking is a completely environmentally friendly activity.

  • Walking is an important form of sustainable transport which costs nothing and offers a wide range of benefits to you and the community.

Are you not sure how to get from your home to work on foot? You could use Google Maps to plan your journey. The site gives you the route required with the time it may take.

CYCLING

Truro and the surrounding Cornwall area, including The Roseland Heritage Coast is a beautiful place to ride your bicycle with a wide variety of scenery, historic buildings and designated routes.

You can cycle to all the facilities in Truro, and Threemilestone Industrial Estate, within a 25 minute cycle, and access National Cycle Route 3 (NCR3).

National Cycle Route 3 routes from Lands End to Bristol providing a high quality link with many off-road sections, which is especially beneficial for those recreational rides!

NCR3 can be accessed to the south of Copperfields, which runs along the disused railway linking Penweathers Junction and Newham. Access to NCR3 can be gained via either Penweathers Lane to the north-west of the site or Old Falmouth Road to the south-east. Penweathers Lane also carries the Engine House Trail cycle link between Hayle and Truro.

The Engine House Trail continues towards Truro City Centre along Chapel Road. National Cycle Route 3 can be also accessed to the south-west of Copperfields site.

Find out more about National Cycle Routes here.

CAR SHARING & CAR CLUBS

Car Sharing

Travelling with other people by car is an easy way to cut your CO2 emissions and save money. By splitting costs with your fellow passengers you will save on fuel and parking fees.

Use your time as a passenger to read or catch up on work, and of course you won’t have to find a parking space.

For more information on local car share schemes visit:

liftshare.com/uk/community/cornwall

Benefits of Car Sharing

  • Reduces travel costs.

  • Reduces wear and tear on your own vehicle.

  • Helps reduce congestion.

  • Expands social networks.

  • Reduces stress levels related to driving.

Car Clubs

The costs and hassle associated with owning a car can really add up. Insurance, servicing, MOT, cleaning, parking permits, the list goes on…

A Car Club gives you access to a choice of cars and vans parked locally where you live or work. Car Club vehicles are serviced and maintained by someone else, that you only ever pay for when you need them, not when you don’t.

A Car Club is effectively a hire car service, which provides better flexibility. To use the car you just have to be a member of the ‘club’.

Enterprise and Co-cars both provide Car Club locations within Truro. These location are highlighted on the Local Amenities map provided above.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are becoming more and more popular. Unlike conventional vehicles which burn petrol or diesel, EVs are powered by batteries just like your smartphone.

The main advantage of EVs is that they produce zero-emissions when you are using them. This means that they provide local environmental benefits including cleaner air and reduced noise in urban areas.

Today’s EVs have the latest cutting-edge technology and can drive over 322 kilometres on a single charge, with some able to cover over 628 kilometres on a single charge - that’s the equivalent of Truro to Kendal!

Did you know?

Every 2 minutes a new EV is registered on UK roads.

Why go electric?

Cheaper to Run
Compared to petrol or diesel, electricity is cheap. Per mile an EV could cost less than a third of what a traditional car costs.

Cheaper to Maintain
Compared to a traditional car, EVs have a lot fewer moving parts, with just three main components - the on-board charger, inverter and motor.

This means there are fewer things requiring maintenance and servicing is simpler, all of which saves you money. You’ll never need to change the oil again!

Better for the Environment
EVs have no tailpipe emissions, and don’t even have an exhaust.

Even when accounting for generating the electricity they use, EVs produce significantly fewer emissions than traditional cars.

Easy Home Charging

With an EV you will never need to go to a petrol station again.

Simply plug your car in when you get home to charge overnight and it’s ready for you in the morning.

Quiet and Quick
EVs offer a smooth and quiet ride.
